Colonial American Furniture:

Colonial American cabinetmakers have left us a rich legacy of functional art which is preserved in our museums, historic homes, and personal collections. These artisans are responsible for creating numerous “timeless designs”, which are in fact just as desirable now as when they were first crafted.  Fortunately, this rich tradition lives on today.   For the past thirty years, Eldred Wheeler and LeFort Furniture -- each in their own way -- have been carrying on the tradition of these colonial craftsmen.  Eldred Wheeler has focused on handcrafting a large variety of country high-style New England pieces, which are sold primarily through their company-owned stores. While Lefort has concentrated on crafting individual bench-made custom pieces for designers and individuals as well as offering a limited number of “Masterpiece Collection” items. Over the years, each company has carved out their own niche, and each has a loyal and dedicated following.   However looking to the future, it became obvious that by working together the two companies could offer a broader range of products and capabilities, and thus better serve their customers.  Therefore, Eldred Wheeler and Lefort have joined forces.   Lefort’s custom, bench-made capability will be now be offered through the Eldred Wheeler stores and on the Eldred Wheeler website.  More formal pieces can be found in the Lefort Masterpiece Collection, which are available on the LeFort Furniture website or through selected designers.   David LeFort (owner of LeFort Furniture) and David McCarthy (owner of Eldred Wheeler) are excited about the road ahead.  As Emmett Eldred, one of the founders of Eldred Wheeler, noted recently, “It seems natural to form a company that has the ability to present the product offerings that Eldred Wheeler has had over the years along with LeFort’s capacity to do bench-made, custom work and masterpiece items.”
